The European Commission presented the “Horizon 2020” Work Program, covering 2018, 2019 and 2020 fiscal years. It provides for funding of about 30 billion euros.
“Horizon 2020” is the largest Framework European Union Research and Innovation Program. Participation in this program enables scholars, researchers, representatives of small and medium entrepreneurship to carry out advanced research, implement innovative ideas, contribute not only to the development of the economy of their country, but also to the creation of better future for the planet.
“Horizon 2020” is a “open to the world” program and offers great prospects for participants from EU member states, associates, researchers, universities, research organizations, companies, non-governmental organizations from other countries. The current Work Program includes thirty flagship initiatives with a budget of more than 1 billion euros with individual countries.
Also, the new Work Program is aimed at:
- support for innovations that create markets;
- support of the EC’s political priorities (low carbon, climate-proof future, “circular” economy, digitization and transformation of European industry and services, security, migration);
- strengthening of inter-branch scientific research, “interesting science” (“frontier research”, “curiosity-driven science”, “blue sky science”);
- simplifying approaches to funding participants.

We remind that in 2015 Ukraine became an associate member of the Horizon 2020 European Union Research and Innovation Framework Program. This greatly expanded our ability to participate in the program, in particular, increased access to financial instruments, and Ukraine can now influence the content of the program.
